Home again, home again, jiggety jig!!
We are home, the dogs were happy to see us and we were happy to see them! The snow is all gone and although there is no sign of spring yet, we are hoping there will be no more winter!!
For some reason, the drive home took twice as long as the drive down!! I have never seen so much construction in my life. No problems on our way to, but coming home was un-freaking-believable! Most of Georgia was tied up, then a few spots in South Carolina and by the time we got to Lumberton NC, we were exhausted and just a bit frustrated. These construction slowdowns were the better part of 45 minutes to an hour!!! And we would just get going along nicely and then wham! another one! But the kicker was the next morning when we got on the road, it started all over again. And continued until we hit New Brunswick! Cruddy pot holes in the road there, but no construction!!!
So you would think I got a lot of knitting done, lo these many hours in the car. Well, yes and no. I knit several inches on the little jumper for Reese only to discover that it was going to be too big. Which wouldn't annoy me too much, except that I actually knit a swatch and my gauge was right, so I didn't think to check the width earlier. So I frogged that whole thing and started over on a smaller sized needle. And I did the math. Kids say what do you need math for in this day and age, well I can tell you in knitting for sure. If the gauge is 22 stitches to 4 inches, then casting on 89 stitches would be 16 inches wide. However, the pattern shows it should be 12 1/2 inches wide. 3 - 4 inches difference makes a huge impact both on the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished project!! At that point I decided to put it away until I got home and then sort it out.
So I picked up my shawl and started working on that. I was really into the pattern so it wasn't as hard as I thought to knit on it in the car. I actually got a lot done and was really pleased with how well it is coming along. I did a row or so Friday night and a couple of rows yesterday and last night I discovered 2 mistakes that I couldn't fix or fudge so I spent most ot the evening frogging that back 3 rows. Three rows of about 400 stitches per row! Oh yeah. I was not a happy camper. However, curling is on this afternoon and evening, so I should get caught up and then some!! No pictures as it is so scrunched up on the needle you can't see anything much, but it is going to be gorgeous!!!
I am all unpacked and still have a few things to put away and the laundry to do, but other than that, we are settled in and life will go on as usual. We are really glad to be home!!
