Lucy Neatby Workshop and the Missing Needle case

I spent the past 2 days with two of my Knitterpudlian friends attending a workshop by Lucy Neatby in Mahone Bay. For pictures, check out Heddy's site. Friday was sock day and we learned some great new, ( to me ) techniques and ideas. I especially can't wait to start a new pair of socks and use the garter stitch short row heel, which doesn't need any of the wrapped stitches to be picked up! Yes!

On our lunch break we did a bit of browsing at Have a Yarn where I purchased some Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino to knit a baby vest for our newest family member, John's grandnephew, MacKenzie Alexander Murray, who was born on Wednesday. For some reason I had neglected to have something wonderful knit up and ready to send off, hence the urgent need to buy yarn and knit this project.

When I got home later that evening, I sat down with pattern and yarn in hand, and went to get the correct size needles from my needle case. Hmmmmm. No case. What have I done with it? I search my house twice that night, but no needle case. So I decide, Oh, yes, I must have left them at the workshop in Mahone Bay. No problem, I will get them in the morning when I go back for our Lace session. You know what it is like when you go to bed with something on your mind. All night long I was wracking my brain trying to think where they might be. Nothing. I check the house again in the morning. Nothing. I still think I must have left them the day before, but I have an uneasy feeling about it. When was the last time I used needles from the case? Ah, when we were on our trip to Ottawa three weeks ago! And yes, we stayed at 5 different hotels that week!! But I must be off to Mahone Bay and I am really sure they are there. I rush in, breathless with anticipation. Are they here? Did someone find them? Where the He__ are they?! Who would steal someone's knitting needles? Not knitters, that's for sure. Now you may think I am over reacting, but, this needle case held about 20 or more pairs of Addi Turbos. Any knitter knows these are lovely needles, but not inexpensive. So we are not talking pocket change here when this case went missing. Now I only have one option left. Phone every hotel we stayed in and see if I left them in one of them, if someone honest found them and turned them and if they still had them. But now it is time for class and I must pay attention.

Lucy does a great workshop on lace and I was even interested enough to try one of her shawl patterns, The Faroese Flower Shawl. I do recall after the Mystery Shawl debacle swearing never to knit another shawl, but I was totally won over by this lovely design. I also quite liked this scarf pattern, called Spindrift Scarf and was pleased to get the pattern for it. Another day and more tips and techniques learned. We left after two great days spent with knitters and a wonderful instructor, tired but much more knowledgable.

The first thing I did when I got home was go on the internet and check out the hotels we stayed at. I figured I would phone the one in Ottawa as that is the one we spent 3 nights in. I call, I give the requested info, she checks and says "Yes, a knitting kit was found in our room on the day we checked out!" I could not believe it! The right hotel the first call! I do the dance of joy and rush to change as we are due at a pot luck dinner and I am providing the appetizer and we are already late. We had a great evening and I am now tired and off to bed.
