Let The Games Begin!

Finally the big day has arrived! The 2010 Olympics officially will begin later this evening in Vancouver! I am so excited. I love the winter Olympics! Probably because I really like the winter sports, skating, curling, skating, etc. And the fact that it the weather is conducive to staying inside and watching them. It is usually cold and dreary and miserable outside, so I love to curl up in front of the TV with my knitting and watch the Olympics. Plus the fact that Canada is hosting them this year! Huge honour, huge expense, but huge rewards. The whole world will be watching Canada and Vancouver in particular for 17 days. Athletes from across this great country will be participating in the sports. Likewise, entertainers from sea to sea will be entertaining at the venues! Canada and all Canadians will welcome the world! Let the games begin!

For those of us who live on the east coast of Canada, watching the Olympics is a bit more challenging than the rest of the country. British Columbia and Vancouver are four, count them four time zones away from us. So if skating were to start at 7 pm in Vancouver, it is already 11 pm here in Atlantic Canada. So I am anticipating late nights and the all too likely possibility of being very tired for the next few weeks! And I have to miss the last 5 days as we will be travelling to Florida and will only have access to US TV channels. Which is fine but they tend to only watch American athletes, (rightfully so) and unless our Canadians win medals, I will hear or see nothing about them! That kinda sucks, but I do have the 2010 Vancouver Olympic app downloaded on my iPhone, so I will be able to keep up to date on everything!!!!!

My Sweaterboard Cross event begins this evening with the lighting of the Olympic flame. I am prepared. I have practiced. I have put in the time and effort. My supplies are ready. I am in the peak of my knitting mojo. Once again I say, Let the games begin!

I am really pleased with how well they came out. A pretty fast knit for all the fussiness of the knit 3 togethers and yarn overs, etc.

And the white shawl. which I am using as a warm up project, is about 2/3 done now. I will work on that today to keep in shape for the start later tonight.

And finally, another movie review. We went to see Invictus with Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon on Monday evening. What a great movie! Morgan Freeman, who I think is amazing, was meant to play this part. He was Nelson Mandela. Matt Damon was also very good, but I think Morgan Freeman was wonderful! And this true story of how he tried to unite the country through the rugby team was so totally uplifting. I will confess to even tearing up a few times and nobody died or anything! We gave it 8.5s and 9s!! Definitely recommend!!
